About
RT & Ralph's Nature Preserve
RT & Ralph’s Nature Preserve serves as the ecological gateway to Beehive Basin and Gallatin Ridge. This 7-acre protected open space safeguards the wetlands and meadow systems visitors pass through before ascending into alpine terrain.
Located on Upper Beehive Basin Road, the preserve balances recreation with habitat protection — offering public access while preserving sensitive landscapes. It provides access to several US Forest Service trails and includes winter amenities such as a beacon check station for backcountry users.
RT & Ralph’s Nature Preserve demonstrates BSCO’s commitment to thoughtful land stewardship — protecting what makes Big Sky special while ensuring responsible public access.
Dog Rules: Dogs are permitted. Please keep dogs under voice and sight control and be mindful of wildlife habitat.

Designated parking lots are available at the trailhead on Upper Beehive Basin Road. Parking fills quickly during peak summer and fall months. Four-wheel drive is highly recommended for winter access.
Getting there
From Highway 191, turn onto Lone Mountain Trail (Highway 64) and travel approximately 10 miles. Turn right onto Beehive Basin Road (just before the Moonlight turnoff). Continue 2 miles to the posted trailhead on the left with designated parking areas.
