About

Marty Pavelich Ice Rink

The Marty Pavelich Ice Rink is a beloved winter recreation space in the heart of Big Sky Community Park. Each winter, the rink brings together residents and visitors for skating, hockey, curling, and community gatherings that celebrate Big Sky’s mountain culture.

The rink’s roots trace back to the early 1980s when local residents first built a seasonal hockey rink at Buck’s T-4 Lodge. Decades later, the vision for a community skating rink returned when Town Center developers and local leaders recognized the community’s passion for skating and hockey.

In 2010, the Big Sky Skating and Hockey Association (BSSHA) was formed to help bring that vision to life. Built largely through volunteer effort, grassroots fundraising, and community support, the rink has grown from a modest seasonal sheet of ice into a regulation-sized outdoor hockey arena used for community programs and events.

The rink honors Marty Pavelich, a former NHL player and four-time Stanley Cup champion who was part of the original organizing group that helped make the rink possible. Today, the Marty Pavelich Ice Rink continues to provide accessible winter recreation for the Big Sky community, from youth hockey to casual open skating.

Dogs are not permitted on the ice surface. Please keep pets under control within the surrounding park areas and follow Community Park dog guidelines.
