About

Ousel Falls Park

Ousel Falls Park is one of Big Sky’s most iconic natural destinations. Acquired in 2003 and stewarded by BSCO, this 29.5-acre open space protects access to the South Fork of the West Fork of the Gallatin River and the beloved Ousel Falls waterfall.

The park includes scenic overlooks, picnic areas, forested pathways, and interpretive features that deepen visitors’ understanding of this remarkable landscape. Accessible year-round, Ousel Falls Park connects directly to US Forest Service trails including First and Second Yellow Mule and Ralph’s Pass, offering both short family-friendly hikes and extended backcountry access.

In spring and early summer, snowmelt transforms the waterfall into a powerful display. In winter, icy formations create a dramatic and quiet landscape. No matter the season, Ousel Falls remains a place where Big Sky gathers, reflects, and reconnects to the land.

Dog Rules: Dogs are permitted but must remain leashed at all times. This area experiences heavy use and active wildlife habitat. Please pack out waste and practice responsible trail etiquette.

Parking

A designated parking lot is available at the Ousel Falls Trailhead off Ousel Falls Road. Parking can fill quickly during peak summer months — plan accordingly.

Getting there

From Big Sky Town Center, head south on Ousel Falls Road for approximately 2 miles. Take the first left past Crown Butte Road into the signed trailhead parking area.
